Saba Daneshgar is an assistant professor at BIOMATH research group at the Department of Data Analysis and Mathematical Modelling at Ghent University. He got his PhD from University of Pavia in 2019 in Italy where he did research on developing, modelling and optimization of phosphorus recovery process from wastewater through chemical precipitation. Since then, he has been actively conducting research in the field of mathematical modelling and optimization of water and wastewater treatment processes with a focus on moving from traditional models to digital twin applications. His main research area includes mathematical modelling (mechanistic, data-driven and hybrid), model-based control and optimization of bioprocesses, developing digital twins for water systems and developing holistic and interoperable decision support tools using ontology and knowledge graphs. He is currently the vice-chair of IWA Modelling and Integrated Assessment Specialist Group and was a member of IWA Digital Water Program steering committee.
