With this regional policy, the European Union wants to reduce the disparities between regional development levels. The Flemish ERDF program supports projects that increase competitiveness and stimulate employment.
These funds reinforce economic, social and territorial cohesion within the European Union and bring back existing imbalances between the regions. They support actions that contribute to sustainable economic development and employment creation, and the realization of the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. This is done in the context of two objectives:
- 'Investing in growth and employment': emphasizing the less developed regions within the Union
- European Territorial Cooperation 'to promote cross-border, trans-regional and inter-regional cooperation;
Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship
The agency Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship is the contact point for entrepreneurs in Flanders. We encourage and support innovation and entrepreneurship, and contribute to a favourable business climate. We do this in close collaboration with local actors and supported by our international commitments in EUREKA, E.E.N. and H2020. We focus on:
- Stimulating growth and innovation
We support businesses through grants so they continue to grow, transform and innovate. Examples include the SME growth subsidy, SME innovation- and R&D-projects.
- Promoting entrepreneurship
We work together with strong partners that assist SMEs through start, growth and takeover. We also encourage networking focused on growth companies.
- Supporting clusters
We support organisations that catalyse cooperation and dynamics within a group of enterprises and knowledge institutions.
- Improving environmental factors
We facilitate the development of industrial areas.
As a one-stop-shop, we build bridges towards stronger entrepreneurship.
ERDF project capture
CAPTURE accelerates and leverages technologies around reuse of raw materials in Flanders. ERDF support was requested by UGent and IIC UGent to build a location, the CAPTURE Accelerator, to bring technology for resource reuse to a higher level and to demonstrate with the worldwide unique infrastructure (CAPTURE Technology Accelerator). On the other hand, companies are getting the space and support to accelerate new business activities on resource utilization, in close consultation with the other stakeholders (CAPTURE Business Accelerator).
